Is New Mountain Finance (NMFC) a good Buffett stock?
New Mountain Finance (NMFC) is analysed against the documented Warren Buffett framework on this page. The Buffett-Fit score rates the stock from 0 to 100 across five pillars (moat, earnings durability, management quality, financial health, valuation), each on a 0-100 sub-scale. The full reasoning behind every pillar is below. Educational only, not investment advice.
Five pillars at a glance. New Mountain Finance's Buffett-Fit score weighs ROIC sustainability (currently 0.0%), gross-margin durability (0.7%), net-debt-to-EBITDA (15.33x), free-cash-flow conversion (22.99x net income), and the owner-earnings yield (49.7%). Each pillar is scored 0-100 against sector-relative benchmarks.
Where NMFC passes the test. A Buffett-style holding needs durable returns, conservative debt, owner-friendly management, and a price below intrinsic value. The full pillar breakdown on /buffett/nmfc/ shows where New Mountain Finance clears each bar, and where it doesn't.
What the score does NOT say. A high Buffett-Fit score is a pattern-match against documented criteria, not a forecast. A stock scoring 90 today can underperform if its underlying business deteriorates faster than the score updates. A stock scoring 30 can outperform if the business recovers. The score weighs current fundamentals against a documented framework: that's all it claims to do.
How invest-like measures this
The Buffett-Fit framework on invest-like scores any public stock from 0 to 100 across five weighted pillars: economic moat (durable competitive advantage), earnings durability (consistent profitability), management quality (capital allocation), financial health (conservative balance sheet), and valuation (margin of safety).
Each pillar is scored on the same 0-100 sub-scale using the rubric Warren Buffett has documented across 50+ years of Berkshire Hathaway shareholder letters. The overall score is the weighted average. Educational only, pattern-match against documented public criteria, not personalised investment advice.
